Sturnus vulgaris cohibitus (2020) in Milan

On the 13th of April 2024 the pianist Zane Rubesa will perform Repečkaitė’s Sturnus vulgaris cohibitus (2020) as part of the unique program titled IN LOVE WITH LIBERTY. The program is consists of compositions by Baltic and Finnish woman composers: Justina Repečkaitė (1989), Linda Leimane (1987), Santa Ratniece (1977), Maria Kõrvits (1987) and Kaija Saariaho (1952-2023). Zane Rubesa’s recital will take place in Fabbrica del Vapore and is a part of Divertimento Ensemble season.

Written in 2020, the composition Sturnus vulgaris cohibitus reflects on the idea of confinement and uses the transducers who make the piano body vibrate, playing the sounds of starling flocks.

Sturnus vulgaris cohibitus (2020) has already been performed by several pianist: Marco Riccelli, Marta Finkelštein and Robert Fleitz who also analyzed the piece in his Master’s thesis titled “Microtonality in works for solo piano: Three case studies in the Baltic keyboard repertoire” defended at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.
